Award winning Australian conductor Jessica Gethin and the Walker Trio will perform at the IWAF luncheon this St Patrick’s Day. Jessica Gethin is currently the conductor of the Perth Symphony Orchestra and will lead the Trio during the performance.
Listed by the Australian Financial Review as one of the ‘Top 100 Most Influential Women’ in Australia for 2015, award winning Australian conductor Jessica Gethin has won praise from audiences and critics alike for her dynamic energy, outstanding musicianship and abounding presence on the podium. Recent reviews describe her performances as ‘simply superb, her conducting is organic; she controlled the ebb and flow of tension with goose-bump inducing artistry; a consummate musician in every respect’.
The Walker Trio comprises three of Western Australia’s leading musicians in their own fields, all from the Walker family. Acclaimed jazz guitarist Ray Walker has teamed with his two classically trained daughters, Jessica Gethin, (violin) and Sophie Curtis (cello), to perform music brought right from their family lounge room to the stage. This uniquely diverse trio perform all their own arrangements and originals, influenced by their Irish roots, classical training and jazz backgrounds, with tastes of world music, film, tango and pop throughout. Favourites include works by Khatchaturian, Piazzolla, J.S. Bach, Riverdance, Stevie Wonder, Sting, Saint-Saens, The Corrs and Chick Corea. They have appeared together live in concert and on festival stages and produced their first album, titled ‘Kindred’, in 2014.
